To visit Rwanda in all its beauty and glory, we’ve designed an 11-day trip visiting the three main nationals parks. This trip highlights the Big Eight (Big Five and Three Primates), Rwanda’s culture, topography from savannahs to mountains, and an educational look into the country’s past, present, and future.
Day 1 – Arrive Kigali International Airport. Meet and greet and transfer to hotel. Overnight at Kigali Marriott.
Day 2 – Kigali city tour designed for your interests. Visit Hôtel Millies Collines (Hotel Rwanda) and the Kigali Genocide Memorial. To lighten the mood after the memorial, have a drink at Kigali Golf Course while hitting a bucket of golf balls on the driving range. Overnight at Kigali Marriott.
Day 3 – Transfer to Akagera National Park. Visit the community library and donate a book from your home country. Private Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Akagera National Park/African Parks Headquarters to learn of the park’s story, conservation, history, monitoring of the animals, and their anti-poaching program. Game safari, and sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema to view hippos, water birds, and crocodiles. Overnight at Ruzizi Tented Camp.
Day 4 – Full day game safari to Akagera’s northern savannah. Overnight at Ruzizi Tented Camp.
Day 5 – Morning safari. Transfer back to Kigali. Overnight at Kigali Marriott.
Day 6 – RwandAir flight to Kamembe. Visit the D.R. Congo/Rwanda border and continue to One&Only Nyungwe House. Afternoon Canopy Walk. Overnight at One&Only Nyungwe House.
Day 7 – Chimpanzee trek. Free afternoon to enjoy the property’s facilities. Overnight at One&Only Nyungwe House.
Day 8 – Leisurely morning. Transfer to Kibuye. Sunset boat tour on Lake Kivu. Overnight at Cleo Lake Kivu Hotel.
Day 9 – Transfer to Musanze and The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and meet an 11-year veteran Volcanoes National Park Guide who will provide educational, interesting, and stories of the Mountain Gorillas, Dian Fossey, and Golden Monkeys. This will help set you up for a more knowledgeable and profound trekking experience. Overnight at Amakoro Songa Lodge.
Day 10 – Mountain Gorilla Trek. Overnight at Amakoro Songa Lodge.
Day 11 – Golden Monkey Trek. Return to Amakoro to freshen up and have lunch, then continue to Kigali Inernational Airport.
