CRADLE OF MANKIND

Northern Kenya holds an unsurpassed archive of human prehistory with rich fossil heritage dating back to the dinosaur ages. This is Kenya’s isolated frontier, the wild (north) west, home to important archaeological sites, nomadic tribes and hardy wildlife species. It is hauntingly-beautiful and otherworldly.

Sibiloi National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Sibiloi is home to important archaeological sites where fossil remains have assisted in the understanding of human evolution. In the 1960s, Dr. Richard Leakey led an expedition here and discovered some of the most important paleontological finds of the 20th Century.

Lake Turkana
Sibiloi National Park stands on the eastern shores of Lake Turkana, the largest desert lake in the world. The lake stretches over a desolate area and because of its alkaline water, it is known as The Jade Sea. Stark cliffs, rocky beaches, Central Island National Park, a large population of crocodiles and the ‘petrified forest’ all call Lake Turkana home.

Central Island
Central Island is located in the middle of Lake Turkana. Known as Crocodile Island, this volcanic island is made up of craters, cones and small lakes. It is extremely remote and almost extraterrestrial-looking. It is the perfect place to stargaze as the sky is vast, pure and close to the Equator.
